Rangers like what they are seeing from Conor Sheary during his tryout
"It's definitely a different experience coming into a new room with a lot of new faces, and trying to turn some heads and make people appreciate your game,"
"But it's almost back to the beginning of my career, and just proving to people that I can play in the league. It's just, kind of, a 10-year separation in that."
"Obviously, I've coached him for a while. I know his game pretty well,"
"I wouldn't deem him a top-six forward in this league, but he's a guy that can play in your top six if you need him to because he has the offensive instincts to do it."
Conor Sheary, 33, entered Rangers camp on a professional tryout agreement and secured preseason lineup roles. He scored in the preseason opener in Newark on Sept. 21 and added two assists against the Islanders in his second game. When Artemi Panarin was scratched, Sheary moved into the first-line left-wing spot with Vincent Trocheck and Alexis Lafreniere. The expected competition for the third-line left wing included Brennan Othmann, Gabe Perreault and Brett Berard, but Sheary distinguished himself. Mike Sullivan, who coached Sheary in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, described him as having the offensive instincts to play in a top-six role when needed. Sheary went undrafted from UMass and signed a minor-league contract in 2014 before joining the Pittsburgh organization.
