"GREENBURGH - With lower-body injuries keeping both J.T. Miller and Sam Carrick from practicing Tuesday, the Rangers found themselves short a couple of centers at practice. So Mika Zibanejad stepped in for Miller as the first-line center, working with three wingers - Alexis Lafreniere, Gabe Perreault and Jonny Brodzinski - rotating around him. It was a chance, for a day, for Zibanejad to play the position he has owned for the Rangers for the past seven years."
"Zibanejad has spent all of training camp and the preseason playing right wing on the first line, alongside Miller. Both he and Miller have made the point that they share forward and wing responsibilities, however. For instance, since Miller is a lefthanded shot and Zibanejad a righthander, each can take faceoffs in the offensive or defensive zone when it is on his strong side."
Mika Zibanejad practiced at center with Alexis Lafreniere, Gabe Perreault and Jonny Brodzinski rotating as wingers after J.T. Miller and Sam Carrick were held out with lower-body injuries. Zibanejad spent training camp and the preseason playing right wing alongside Miller but has experience at center and had the opportunity to run center responsibilities in new coach Mike Sullivan's zone-defense system. Miller is a left-handed shot and Zibanejad a right-hander, allowing each to take faceoffs on his strong side. Both Miller and Carrick are listed day-to-day. The Rangers trimmed their roster by sending 11 players to Hartford, including Othmann.
