City Council approves Just Home housing project despite objections from Mayor Adams, Council Member Marmorato - Bronx Times
"embarrassing and hypocritical."
"This was not about housing,"
"The administration already committed to relocating this project and expanding affordable housing at Jacobi. This was about power, ego, and politics. And how shameful that personal feelings were allowed to outweigh the voices of the people we represent,"
"The fact is that providing formerly incarcerated people with supportive housing does not make our neighborhoods less safe - on the contrary, it makes us all safer,"
On Sept. 25, City Council approved a 99-year sublease for Just Home at a vacant building on the Jacobi Hospital campus. The Fortune Society will operate the development, which includes 82 apartments: 58 supportive units with on-site services and medical care and 24 regular affordable units. The vote broke the tradition of member deference when the council overruled local representative Kristy Marmorato, who opposed the project on behalf of Morris Park residents. NYC Health + Hospitals had approved the project in 2024 but asked to relocate and postpone the hearing. The council voted despite objections from First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro.
