Eric Adams drops out of the New York mayor's race weeks ahead of the election
""Yet, despite all we've achieved, I cannot continue my reelection campaign," Adams said."
""The constant media speculation about my future and the campaign finance board's decision to withhold millions of dollars have undermined my ability to raise the funds needed for a serious campaign.""
""New Yorkers should be suspicious of any politician or political movement that claims we must wholesale destroy the systems we created together over generations in order to usher in a new, untested order led by self-styled saviors," he said."
Eric Adams announced his withdrawal from the New York City mayoral race in an eight-minute video posted to X, saying lack of funding and media scrutiny made continuation impossible. He said campaign finance board decisions to withhold millions undermined his ability to raise necessary funds. Zohran Mamdani holds a large polling lead and is widely expected to win in November. Mamdani has proposed freezing rents, raising taxes on the wealthy, and said billionaires should not exist. Adams warned against efforts to wholesale destroy long-standing systems. Three candidates remain: Andrew Cuomo, Zohran Mamdani, and Curtis Sliwa; early voting begins October 25.
