Council Member Gale Brewer withdrew support for a bill banning parking within 20 feet of street corners, a design called daylighting, after communication from Department of Transportation officials. DOT told Brewer the proposed law would remove 13,000 parking spaces per council district, a figure double the 6,500 average spots per district previously estimated under oath. DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez wrote that daylighting "adds danger." Intro 1138 by Council Member Julie Won was proposed after grassroots advocacy following child crash deaths and had 26 co-sponsors in July.
