Firefighter Matthew Goicochea, age 31, died following a motorcycle accident on New York City's FDR Drive. He lost control of his 2023 Yamaha motorcycle near East 25th Street and fell, after which an unknown vehicle struck him and fled the scene. Goicochea was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. He had joined the FDNY in September 2022 and received the Thomas Wylie Medal for a heroic rescue in the Bronx. The NYPD is investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made as of yet.
