Francisco Alvarez and Jeff McNeil played in minor league rehab games and will be reevaluated. Alvarez, recovering from a fractured hamate bone, went 1-for-5 in Double-A, while McNeil had a standout performance in Binghamton, including four hits. Their return is critical as the Mets have performed well without them, specifically noting Luis Torrens and Luisangel Acuña's contributions. Acuña's recent hitting streak exemplifies his impact, and Mark Vientosâ injury continues to affect the roster, but he anticipates a quicker recovery.
"He's like having another leadoff guy down there [in the lineup],'' Francisco Lindor said of Acuña, who batted sixth on Sunday and scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
Mendoza said Alvarez might get some at-bats at Triple-A Syracuse to make sure his timing is right at the plate.
