Petr Nedved, drafted second overall in 1990, moved to the New York Rangers on July 24, 1994, in a trade with the St. Louis Blues. He scored 23 points in 46 games during the lockout-shortened 1994–95 season before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on August 31, 1995. In Pittsburgh Nedved produced 45 goals and 99 points in 1995–96 and 33 goals with 71 points the following year. A contract dispute cost him the entire 1997–98 season. He returned to New York on November 25, 1998, led the Rangers in scoring twice, formed the "Czech Mates" line, and posted his best Rangers season in 2000–01 with 32 goals and 78 points. He was traded again on March 3, 2004.
