Now that Red Sox are in the playoffs, who should they want to play in Wild Card Series?
"The Red Sox are back in the postseason, but the full playoff field in the American League has yet to be determined. What is for certain, though, is that the Red Sox will play on the road in the Wild Card Series as they'll either get the fifth or sixth seed in the American League playoffs. All three games will be played at the Red Sox' opponent's home ballpark."
"Max Fried has been nearly as good as Crochet this season, especially when he's gone up against the Red Sox. The lefty's allowed just four runs in 18 1/3 innings pitched this season (1.96 ERA) over three starts against Boston this season. Crochet, on the other hand, has put up respectable numbers against the Yankees, but they aren't as strong as Fried's against the Red Sox. Crochet has a 3.29 ERA in 27 1/3 innings pitched over four starts against the Yankees this season."
The Red Sox will be the road team in the American League Wild Card Series as either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed, so all three games will take place at their opponent's ballpark. A No. 5 seed pairs them with the Yankees or Blue Jays, while a No. 6 seed pairs them with the Guardians. Boston won nine of 13 games against New York this season but dropped two of three at Fenway in their most recent meeting. Game 1 could be decisive, and Max Fried has been especially effective against Boston compared with Garrett Crochet's solid but less dominant numbers against New York.
