Liquid Strata, created by Lisbon based studio Entangled Others, is an innovative installation that merges art and science, centering on marine snow phenomena researched by oceanographer Joan Llort. The installation aims for a 'fly on the wall' experience, using artificial life simulations to highlight the biodiversity and intricacies of this phenomena. Marine snow, which consists of falling organic matter from various marine organisms, serves as a carbon sequestration mechanism. The project's simulation aggregates diverse data to represent these concepts through engaging digital and physical displays, complemented by a sonic composition from Daphne Xanthopoulou.
"The installation attempts to create a 'fly on the wall' experience through an a-life simulation, conveying the rich biodiversity of marine snow's complexities."
"Modelled from observational and data-based research, the resulting process of complex simulation is represented not as a cohesive whole, but as a patchwork of digital and physical fragments."
