Many women who decide not to have children acknowledge the full scope of parenting: the time commitment, constant attention, personal sacrifices, emotional awareness, intelligence, and financial responsibility required to be a great mother, yet still choose not to parent. The film Idiocracy provides an analogy in which highly informed, cautious people decline to reproduce because of a bleak future, while less cautious or less informed people continue to have children. That dynamic yields a population shift toward lower-average decision-making or competence, producing a perceived societal decline. The argument links individual reproductive choices to long-term cultural and demographic consequences.
