It's also home to 451 pet-friendly restaurants, 5.7 dog parks per 100,000 residents, and 33 24-hour vets. Furthermore, it has an impressive walk score and has more than 90 dog-friendly activities scattered throughout the city."

"To create its rankings, the team first created a seed list of 150 of the largest cities in the United States by population. From there, it then evaluated how vacation-ready each one is for travelers with dogs using 12 pet-friendly metrics. Those factors include how many accommodations are pet-friendly, the number of things to do with pets, each city's walkability, climate, and access to veterinarian care."

"Coming in a close second is Albuquerque, New Mexico, which scored high marks for its number of dog parks and affordable accommodations, which helped it nab a score of 104.90. Rounding out the top three is Phoenix, Arizona, which scored 103.71, with particularly good marks for its walkability."

Portland, Oregon emerged as the top destination with a score of 109.70, featuring 52% pet-friendly hotels averaging $231.75 nightly, 451 pet-friendly restaurants, 5.7 dog parks per 100,000 residents, 33 24-hour veterinary clinics, and over 90 dog-friendly activities. Albuquerque, New Mexico ranked second with 104.90, and Phoenix, Arizona placed third with 103.71. Additional top destinations include San Francisco, Tampa, San Diego, Austin, New York City, Tucson, and Colorado Springs, with Florida cities performing particularly well overall.
