Mieke Vrijmoet rediscovered a 35mm SLR and began photographing their neighborhood while walking their dog. Vrijmoet enrolled in classes at Franklin Foto to learn black-and-white film techniques. Backyard music sessions with friends merged old-time string band music and analog photography in Vrijmoet's work. Two of Vrijmoet's photos appear in Noise & Grain, an exhibition at Franklin Foto running through Dec. 31 that features images of local musicians and live performances. Franklin Foto provides a community darkroom with 12 enlargers, shared trays, chemicals, and a washing area. Classes on framing, lighting, and developing cap at eight and often sell out; anyone can sign up bringing only film and paper.
