Guitar Wars opened a new 3,800-square-foot store Dec. 1 at 447 South First St. in San Jose's SoFA district after relocating from South San Jose. The co-owners are Carlos Gascon, Josiah Kverno, and Brandon Gascon. The store will sell new and vintage guitars and other instruments, offer guitar, piano, and drum lessons, provide instrument repairs, and host a live studio for bands to prepare for performances. The shop sits next to Pete Be Center, which is preparing a venue for music shows and live events at 439 South First St. Ritchie Commercial arranged the lease to bring the store downtown. Downtown San Jose has experienced a decades-long retail exodus following the rise of Westfield Valley Fair.
