Despite his Alzheimer's diagnosis, Girardi's attempts to distance himself from the lies and mismanagement of funds were dismissed. The court rejected proposals for alternative sentencing, emphasizing accountability despite Girardi's claims of innocence and poor accounting as contributing factors to his actions.
"Mr. Girardi further victimized these people and did so at the lowest point in their lives," Staton said.
"We are here today because of Tom Girardi's lies," he said, calling Girardi's handling of client money at the now defunct Girardi Keese law firm a 'textbook Ponzi scheme.'
