Readership for the major conservative websites has dramatically decreased, with an overall decline of 40 percent compared to 2020. Notable declines include The Daily Caller at 57 percent, Drudge Report at 81 percent, and The Federalist at 91 percent. Although some decline was expected, the rapid drop in conservative site readership is particularly alarming. FoxNews.com, while still popular, has also experienced a 22 percent decrease, equating to 23 million fewer visitors monthly. The primary contributor to these declines appears to be changes in Facebook's algorithms affecting traffic distribution.
Readership of the 10 largest conservative websites was down 40 percent compared with the same month in 2020, according to The Righting, a newsletter that uses monthly data from Comscore.
The Daily Caller lost 57 percent of its audience; Drudge Report was down 81 percent; and The Federalist lost a staggering 91 percent.
FoxNews.com, by far the most popular conservative-news site, has fared better, losing 'only' 22 percent of traffic, translating to 23 million fewer monthly site visitors.
The decline has been especially steep on the right side of the media aisle, with Facebook's mysterious algorithms being the obvious culprit.
