California blitz: Trail-running legend sprints up Sierra's 14ers, then bicycles north for more
"Jornet's adventure, dubbed States of Elevation, involves climbing all the 14,000-foot peaks in the Lower 48 and traveling between them by foot and bicycle. He climbed 56 Colorado mountains in 16 days this month, then bicycled nearly 900 miles to the Eastern Sierra to take on California's highest. In three days starting on Sept. 24, he hit the summits of Norman's 13, setting what is expected to be confirmed as the fastest known time for a supported trek of the high-altitude route."
"The Spanish-born Jornet, 37, has set multiple speed records in mountaineering and won some of the world's most prestigious long-distance trail races. This past July, he returned to the Western States Endurance Run, where he had claimed the title as a 23-year-old. His 2025 time on the 100-mile trans-Sierra route was 80 minutes faster the fifth-fastest on record. Jornet is logging his States of Elevation progress on Instagram and Strava."
Kilian Jornet is attempting to climb all the 14,000-foot peaks in the Lower 48 while traveling between them by foot and bicycle as part of States of Elevation. He climbed 56 Colorado mountains in 16 days, then bicycled nearly 900 miles to the Eastern Sierra to take on California's highest. In three days starting on Sept. 24 he summited Norman's 13, setting an expected fastest known time for a supported high-altitude trek. After a night in Bishop he bicycled across the Owens River Valley and climbed White Mountain on Sept. 27. Remaining are Mount Shasta and Mount Rainier and at least 900 more miles of cycling. He has multiple speed records and ultramarathon wins and logs progress on Instagram and Strava. By his tally he will have climbed 72 fourteeners in a little more than a month if he completes Shasta and Rainier.
