LGBTQ+ adults agree - Americans don't accept transgender people
Briefly

A recent Pew Research Center survey reveals a stark contrast in social acceptance among various LGBTQ+ identities. While 61% of queer Americans respect gay men and lesbians, only 13% extend similar sentiments towards transgender individuals. The survey highlights alarming statistics, such as 73% of gay or lesbian adults and 68% of trans adults reporting experiences of slurs or harassment. Trans individuals indicate a troubling lack of acceptance, with 52% acknowledging minimal to no social acceptance, and a significant 70% expressing fears for their personal safety. Acceptance from family varies, with only 31% of trans adults feeling accepted by parents.
Trans adults were nearly twice as likely as gay or lesbian adults to say they had faced harassment within the past 12 months (42 percent vs. 22 percent).
Respondents similarly agreed that nonbinary people are not as accepted socially, with 44 percent asserting they receive acceptance 'not much/none at all.'
52 percent say that there is currently not much to no acceptance at all for trans people. Respondents similarly agreed that nonbinary people are not as accepted socially.
The majority of gay or lesbian adults (73 percent) as well as trans adults (68 percent) said that they have been the target of slurs or jokes.
