"If you're playing on Creative Mode, then you shouldn't worry about hunger and thirst at all. Your character, for all intents and purposes, is immortal. In Survival Mode, however, things might be a little too challenging since you need to look for food and water items. These items can be crafted using a Fabricator, and the recipes that you unlock should appear in the device's Sustenance tab. It's also possible to find these consumables lying around as loot, such as those inside supply crates."
"Your character gets thirstier faster than they go hungry. That said, drinking water is easier to come by: You just need to look for tiny Water Slugs on the seafloor. Each creature can be converted via the Fabricator into Water, which has a +40 value. Later, once you've build a Processor, you'll be able to make Water through an alternative recipe that costs 3x Fibrous Pulp."
"At the start of the game, your character can only digest Nutrient Blocks: Nutrient Blocks grant +40 food. They're primarily looted from supply crates and stashes, so keep your eyes peeled. Once you have a Processor, you can produce Biofuel Blocks from organic materials, such as Fibrous Pulp and Pent. The Fabricator can then turn 1x Biofuel Block and 1x Salt into 1x Nutrient Block."
"For the most part, though, you need to hunt various types of fish swimming around you. Examples include Geordies, Halfmoons, and Harvestmoons. These creatures can be cooked via the Fabricator, and they grant +25 to 30 food. There's just one teensy-weensy problem: Whether they're cooked or not, you won't be able to digest"
In Creative Mode, hunger and thirst do not affect survival because the character is effectively immortal. In Survival Mode, food and water must be obtained or crafted using a Fabricator, with recipes unlocked appearing in the Sustenance tab and consumables also found as loot in supply crates. Thirst increases faster than hunger, and water is obtained by converting tiny Water Slugs into Water with a +40 value, or later by using a Processor to craft Water with a recipe costing 3x Fibrous Pulp. Early hunger management relies on Nutrient Blocks, which grant +40 food and are mainly looted. With a Processor, Biofuel Blocks can be made from organic materials and converted with Salt into Nutrient Blocks. Fish such as Geordies, Halfmoons, and Harvestmoons can be cooked for +25 to 30 food, but digestion is not possible for them whether cooked or not.
