Cheryl Cotton has been appointed as the new superintendent of West Contra Costa Unified School District, succeeding Dr. Kenneth Hurst and Dr. Kim Moses. With deep roots in the community and a robust educational background, Cotton brings extensive experience from various roles, including the California Department of Education. She is notably the district's first Black woman superintendent and has been given a three-year contract with an initial salary of $325,000, beginning her term on June 20.
I am happy to welcome Ms. Cotton back to the WCCUSD. Her familiarity with our community and wide-ranging professional experiences will be instrumental in driving student achievement.
Cotton has decades of experience in the education field at the local, county and state level, including roles with the California Department of Education.
