David Jolly is launching his campaign for governor of Florida, focused on addressing the state's affordability crisis amid rising living costs. Jolly believes that the Democratic Party can form a coalition with independents and dissatisfied Republicans, appealing to a broader base. He acknowledges the challenges Democrats face in Florida without recent statewide victories, highlighting the need to engage voters in diverse communities, including faith-based groups and rural areas, in order to secure support for a path to victory in the upcoming election.
"Affordability, affordability, affordability. That is the No. 1 issue," Jolly said, highlighting that the high cost of living is his campaign's central theme.
"We are in the midst of a generational affordability crisis that's impacting every voter and every community... I don't believe Republicans are offering solutions for that," Jolly expressed, emphasizing the urgency of his campaign's focus.
"There's a coalition of voters in Florida led by the Democratic Party... but that is broad enough to include independents and many disaffected Republicans," he explained, aiming to attract a diverse voter base.
"Victory requires a candidate who goes places where Democrats haven't gone before... speaking to communities of faith, gun owners, and the ag community," Jolly added, outlining his strategy.
