Rand Paul Confronts Mullin With Footage of His Near-Fight
"You want to run your mouth. We can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here, Mullin said at the time. Okay, that's fine. Perfect, O'Brien said as Mullin jumped out of his chair and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) needed to convince him to sit again."
"I would have probably jumped over the dais at that point, Mullin said in a clip from a Newsmax interview after the O'Brien confrontation. You have to be called out. This guy continues to get away with this stuff. And then it's just, you know, it's silly, it's stupid, but every now and then you get punched in the face."
"So no regrets, Paul said after showing the clips. In fact, even after your anger had cooled, you were still bragging that if he'd only been brave enough to stand up, you'd have jumped over the dais and taught him a lesson, because that's how men should settle their differences."
During a Senate hearing, Sen. Rand Paul confronted Markwayne Mullin, Trump's nominee for Homeland Security Secretary, regarding a November 2023 incident where Mullin nearly engaged in a physical fight with Teamsters President Sean O'Brien during a hearing. The confrontation arose after heated social media exchanges between the two men. Mullin stood up from his chair and moved toward O'Brien before Sen. Bernie Sanders intervened. Paul presented footage of the incident and subsequent interviews where Mullin expressed no regrets, stating he would have jumped over the dais if O'Brien had engaged. Paul questioned whether such behavior sets an appropriate example for ICE and Border Patrol personnel. Mullin responded by noting that he and O'Brien have since become friends, crediting President Trump with facilitating their reconciliation.
