A San Jose Sharks lineup light on experienced NHL players fell behind early and lost 3-2 to the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center. Cutter Gauthier, Radko Gudas and Frank Vatrano scored within 2:51 to give Anaheim a 3-0 lead by 9:13 of the second period, with Gudas' goal coming shorthanded after a lost puck battle behind the Sharks' net. Pavol Regenda scored on a power play at 13:29 and Adam Gaudette added a later goal to cut the deficit to one. Ville Husso made 22 saves. Jakub Skarek and Gabriel Carriere split time in net for San Jose. Only six projected regulars dressed for the Sharks, and coach Ryan Warsofsky lamented the team's lack of connectivity after an earlier preseason loss to Vegas.
