Union Square reopened its Winter Walk Saturday night with large crowds as city leaders seek to revive downtown during the holiday season. Attendees described enjoying the festivities and family time while thousands also participated in the annual Santa Con pub crawl. Mayor Daniel Lurie was introduced by former NBA champion Festus Ezeli and praised first responders and law enforcement for public safety gains. City figures showed crime down 30% and car break-ins down 44%, with hopes to end the year near the lowest homicide rate since the 1950s. The city urged people to visit Union Square for the holidays.
