The San Francisco Giants fired manager Bob Melvin after missing the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey announced the decision after previously exercising Melvin's 2026 contract option on July 1. Melvin received no assurances about managing in 2026. The Giants finished 81-81, one win better than in Melvin's first year, and have not reached the postseason since winning the NL West with a franchise-record 107 victories in 2021 under Gabe Kapler. Posey expressed appreciation for Melvin's dedication, professionalism and class and said a change in leadership was in the team's best interest. Players, including Matt Chapman, offered support for Melvin.
