"Willy Adames became the first player since Barry Bonds in 2004 to hit the mark on Sunday when he smoked McCade Brown's first pitch of the afternoon deep to center field to open up the scoring against the Colorado Rockies. The decision to make him a leadoff hitter, after spending most of the season batting either second or third, was made just before Sunday's game, the final day of the regular season."
"However, the 30-homer threshold is hardly a metric only reserved for the best of the best. Since Bonds last accomplished the feat - and it's worth noting that, at age 39, Bonds hit 45 homers in 2004 - there have been 573 instances of players hitting 30 home runs in a season, a total that includes Adames twice as a Brewer."
Willy Adames reached 30 home runs on the final day of the regular season by homering off McCade Brown to open scoring against the Colorado Rockies. The Giants moved Adames into the leadoff spot just before the game after he had spent most of the season batting second or third. Barry Bonds was the last Giant to hit 30 in 2004, when he hit 45 homers at age 39. There have been 573 instances of players hitting 30 homers in a season since Bonds did so. Rafael Devers reached 30 this year but 15 of his were with Boston, leaving him with 20 as a Giant; Devers would need to aim higher next season to claim organizational home run history.
