A Gen Zer explains how he navigated Amazon's 5-hour 'loop' interview and landed a job with no connections
"Based on his research and conversations with friends who'd gone through the process, Kumar said he expected the background check to take no more than 15 days - but day 20 passed, then day 25, with no update. The company doing the background check told him the delay was tied to his lack of prior work experience in the US, which complicated the process."
"The company doing the background check told him the delay was tied to his lack of prior work experience in the US, which complicated the process. In September 2023, around the 25-day mark, Kumar said the company told him that, due to business needs, they couldn't wait any longer for his background check to come through. His offer had been rescinded. Kumar's background check cleared afterabout 35 days. He reached out to the company to share the update - but by then, it was too late."
Sooraj Kumar moved to the US from Pakistan in January 2022 to pursue a master's in business analytics at DePaul University. He began searching for full-time work in November 2022 while lacking US work authorization, which led some employers to decline waiting or sponsoring visas. He completed more than two dozen interviews during a yearlong search, which helped prepare him for Amazon's loop interviews. In June 2023 he graduated and later received a verbal offer in August from an investment firm pending a background check. The employer rescinded the offer around day 25 due to business needs even though his background check cleared afterabout 35 days; he reached out after it was too late.
