Intel dumps European sites, signals more job cuts to come
Briefly

Intel is canceling its manufacturing projects in Germany and Poland, including a major chip factory in Magdeburg that was expected to receive substantial government subsidies. This decision comes as part of a new strategy under CEO Lip-Bu Tan, focused on aligning production with customer needs. Construction of an Ohio fabrication plant is also being delayed to match demand. Intel plans to lay off about 15 percent of its workforce, aiming to maintain a headcount of approximately 75,000, which indicates significant downsizing efforts.
In a memo to all employees, chief executive Lip-Bu Tan stated, 'With that in mind, we have decided not to move forward with previously planned projects in Germany and Poland.'
Tan confirmed plans to lay off approximately 15 percent of the workforce, stating the aim to end the year with a global headcount of about 75,000.
