OpenAI's Chief Communications Officer Is Leaving the Company
"Hannah has played a defining role in shaping how people understand OpenAI and the work we do,"
"She has an extraordinary ability to bring clarity to complex ideas, and to do it with care and grace. We're deeply grateful for her leadership and partnership these last five years, and we wish her the very best."
"I'm grateful I got to help tell OpenAI's story, introduce ChatGPT and other incredible products to the world, and share more about the people forging the path to AGI during an extraordinary moment of growth and momentum."
Hannah Wong will leave OpenAI in January after five years with the company. Wong joined OpenAI in 2021 and led the communications team as ChatGPT grew into a major consumer product. She became chief communications officer in August 2024 and expanded the communications team. Wong helped guide the company through the 2023 PR crisis around Sam Altman's brief ouster and re-hiring, internally called "the blip." OpenAI leadership praised her ability to clarify complex ideas with care and grace. Lindsey Held will lead communications until a new chief communications officer is hired, and Kate Rouch is leading the search. Wong plans to spend more time with her husband and children while considering her next career steps.
