Las Vegas is taking significant steps towards building a new airport in the Ivanpah Valley, crucial for meeting rising air travel demands. The FAA and Bureau of Land Management have initiated an environmental impact statement for the Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport, a process deemed vital by local officials. This airport aims to support both domestic and international flights and ease congestion at the existing Harry Reid International Airport, projected to reach capacity by 2030. With growing tourism and events, the new facility will ensure Las Vegas remains a premier destination.
"This important step brings us closer to addressing the increasing demand for air travel in one of the nation's fastest growing regions," Rosemary Vassiliadis, the Clark County director of aviation, said.
"As a second commercial airport, SNSA will add much-needed capacity, improve service reliability, and ensure Southern Nevada continues to thrive as a global destination for business and tourism," Vassiliadis said.
