""The glaciers in Bavaria will inevitably melt away, as they can no longer survive in the face of climate change," said Christoph Mayer, a glaciologist at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences."
""The ice is receding, the terrain and the lift have changed drastically," said Laura Schaper, spokeswoman of the ski lift operator Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG."
"Wilfried Hagg, a geologist at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, stated that climate change is entirely to blame for the glacier loss, asserting there is "absolutely no" chance of saving any of Germany's remaining glaciers."
The glaciers atop Zugspitze mountain are melting due to climate change, prompting the demolition of a ski lift after over 50 years of operation. The ski slope on the Schneeferner glacier has disappeared, making the lift technically unfeasible. Recent data indicates that Bavarian glaciers have receded by over a quarter from 2023 to 2025, losing approximately one million cubic meters of ice. Experts assert that there is no chance of saving the remaining glaciers in Bavaria, which are rapidly diminishing.
