Michigan Ski Resort Is Fighting For Its Latest Closing Date In History
"Michigan's Boyne Mountain is currently open just on Saturdays and Sundays with lifts spinning from 9am-1pm. Skiing and snowboarding is limited to the Victor run, or Victor Glacier."
"This Saturday, May 16th, Boyne is hosting their Boho Bash, celebrating the long-standing (yet friendly) rivalry between Mount Bohemia and Boyne Mountain on who can stay open the latest. Bohemia called it quits a few weeks ago, leaving Boyne as the winner. Boho pass holders will be able to ski at Boyne for free this Saturday, and from 2-4pm all Boho and Boyne pass holders will be able to participate in the Clock Tower Lodge pool takeover."
"The Michigan resort is eyeing Memorial Day Weekend for their closing. It's not guaranteed that they'll make it, but mountain staff is putting a lot of work into moving snow around the glacier. If they do make it, it will mark the latest closure in resort history."
Skiing in May is often associated with western regions where high altitude and heavy snowfall extend seasons. New England resorts also tend to operate into mid-spring, though with less snow. The Midwest is less commonly expected to offer May skiing, but Boyne Mountain in Michigan is attempting to remain open until Memorial Day Weekend. The resort currently runs lifts Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 1pm, with skiing and snowboarding limited to the Victor run, or Victor Glacier. On May 16, Boyne hosts Boho Bash to celebrate the friendly rivalry with Mount Bohemia, which closed earlier. Boho pass holders ski for free, and from 2-4pm pass holders can join a Clock Tower Lodge pool takeover. Staff are moving snow to support a potential latest-ever closure.
