"Most people feel pretty safe when skiing or snowboarding on a groomed, in-bound trail on resort, but this video from four-time Australian Olympic snowboarder Scotty James shows why that shouldn't always be the case. While riding at Saas-Fee in the Swiss Alps James came across a crevasse right in the middle of the trail, and it looks to go down a fair distance."
"As much of Saas-Fee is located on a glacier, crevasses are very much possible. Fortunately this one seems mostly covered and probably pretty hard to fall into, but that doesn't mean it can't do some damage to someone who dips a ski or snowboard into the hole. Let this be a reminder to stay alert even if you're on a planned out groomer."
Scotty James encountered a crevasse in the middle of a groomed, in-bounds trail at Saas-Fee in the Swiss Alps, with the hole appearing to descend a fair distance. Much of Saas-Fee sits on a glacier, so crevasses are possible even on resort runs. The crevasse appears mostly covered and difficult to fall into, but a dipped ski or snowboard could still be damaged or cause injury. Skiers and snowboarders should remain alert on groomed trails. Saas-Fee offers high-altitude, year-round skiing thanks to the Allalin Glacier, with a strong lift network and an Ice Pavilion inside the glacier.
