Blackburn v Ipswich to be replayed in full after washout - Soccer News
"The decision follows recent precedents relating to abandoned fixtures and is intended to uphold the integrity of the league competition, which should, wherever possible, be based on a complete set of fixtures played to a conclusion on the day, The board recognised that this was an incredibly difficult decision and agreed to consult clubs on the best approach to the development of new guidance to be considered in the event of a match abandonment."
"The EFL statement confirmed that a "majority" decided the game should be replayed in full following a board meeting, after all options were considered in accordance with the regulations."
"The defender will still serve a suspension, but Cantwell's goal will no longer stand, with a new date for the fixture set to be confirmed in due course."
The Championship fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town was abandoned in the 79th minute because of heavy rain. Blackburn led 1-0 through Todd Cantwell's second-half penalty when play was stopped. Ipswich defender Jacob Greaves had been sent off before the abandonment. The EFL Board met and, by a "majority" decision, ruled the match must be replayed in full at a later date. Cantwell's goal will be voided for the replay, but Greaves will still serve his suspension. The board cited precedents and said it will consult clubs on new abandonment guidance.
