Europe's Finest: Power rankings for football's top players (September 24th)
"I can't watch everything. The list will only contain players playing in Europe's 'top five' leagues. If you don't know what this refers to, it's a colloquial term used to describe England's Premier League, Germany's Bundesliga, Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A and France's Ligue 1 as a collective, these five being the most commonly-agreed upon as the five best leagues on the continent."
"For some reason, the last time I did this, I used to get quite a bit of flak for preferring players who were in a good patch of form instead of the consistent performers. Newsflash, guys: that's the whole point. These rankings are meant to be dynamic and have a recency bias by design. It's meant to be a jumping-on point for people just tuning in rather than a history lesson on what's happened every week prior to today."
Europe's Finest returns after nearly two years to rank the top-performing players across Europe's top five leagues on a weekly, shifting basis. Rankings are subjective and influenced by which clubs receive the most attention. Eligible players are limited to the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1. Rankings prioritize recent form and intentionally include a recency bias rather than rewarding long-term consistency. The presenter generally limits the list to one player per club, with exceptions; Michael Olise, Joshua Kimmich, Raphinha and Bradley Barcola are named as players who miss out. International matches are excluded except during major tournaments.
