Is Shankland unfortunate not to be in Scotland squad?
"Always close. I know Lawrence very well, I know what he can bring. I just felt the forward players I had last camp did well in the camp, did well in the games and have done well for their clubs in between. I didn't see too much reason to change."
"not surprised"
Lawrence Shankland scored 68 goals across the past three seasons and recorded eleven goal involvements in his last ten league games while captaining Heart of Midlothian. Scotland head coach Steve Clarke omitted Shankland from the World Cup qualifier squad, stating Shankland was always close but existing forward choices performed well in camp, games and for their clubs. Clarke selected Che Adams, Lyndon Dykes, George Hirst and Kieron Bowie as attacking options. Comparisons show Shankland has outscored and assisted more than those four since last term, while the selected forwards have recent experience at higher competitive levels. Hearts coach Derek McInnes expressed he was not surprised and expects a recall if Shankland maintains his form.
