The decision to dismiss David Moyes coincided with a downturn despite Moyes delivering a UEFA Europa Conference League trophy and top-half finishes. Successor managers have failed to restore consistent form. Significant transfer spending has not translated into high-level performance. New manager Nuno Espírito Santo has shown early signs of improvement but will need reinforcements in January, particularly a reliable goalscorer. Relegation to the Championship would be a disastrous blow for a club of West Ham's stature. David Moyes has performed reasonably well at Everton this season.
