India: Did temple officials cover up mass murders of women? DW 07/25/2025
Briefly

A former sanitation worker at Dharmasthala, Karnataka, alleged he witnessed numerous murders and rapes from 1995 to 2014. He claimed to have seen many dead bodies, especially of women, near the Nethravathi river. Initially, he thought these deaths were due to suicide or drowning, but later realized they were victims of violence. The whistleblower stated he was forced to dispose of countless bodies, many of which were young girls. His complaint reflects deep guilt and fear of repercussions for revealing these events.
"I am filing this complaint with an extremely heavy heart and to recover from an insurmountable sense of guilt ... I can no longer bear the burden of memories of the murders I witnessed..."
"Many female corpses were found without clothes or undergarments... Some corpses showed clear signs of sexual assault and violence; injuries or strangulation marks indicating violence were visible on those bodies."
