Splinter Cell Animated Series Is Canonical To The Games, For The Most Part
"[Deathwatch] follows the timeline and characters set by the mainline games,"
"While Deathwatch respects the source material, some creative liberties were taken with certain events for television."
"Even though we have elements of that game referenced there, it's hopefully small enough and the changes therein minute enough [that fans won't be upset],"
" rip the spine out of the source material," and "keep the brain and the heart, entertain the soul, and do your best to actually build it into something that works."
Ubisoft confirmed that Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is canonical to the video-game timeline and characters while allowing some minor televised changes. The series includes callbacks to Douglas Shetland's death from Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory and portrays Shetland's daughter, Diana Shetland, as CEO of Xanadu and a central antagonist tied to a new crisis. Some retroactive changes were made but the events of the series largely align with the games. Showrunner Derek Kolstad emphasized preserving core elements while adapting the material for television. Netflix will debut the series on October 14, and a Splinter Cell remake remains in development.
