Toronto's delayed Eglinton-Crosstown LRT getting closer to completion | CBC News
"The Eglinton-Crosstown LRT is getting one step closer to its much-delayed completion as Metrolinx announced it "aspires" to start the revenue service demonstration this week. The revenue service demonstration is a 30-day testing period that runs trains on the route as if it were open to the public. The provincial agency originally had aimed to start the process in September, but it did not meet that target."
"The 25-stop line was initially set to open in 2020, but a series of technical problems and associated cost overruns have plagued the project and repeatedly delayed its completion. Construction on the line began in 2011. Metrolinx CEO Michael Lindsay said last month that the project was yet again delayed due to performance and reliability issues with trains. The project is "definitely" moving in the right direction, TTC CEO Mandeep Lali told CBC Radio's Metro Morning. He said Metrolinx will decide when it's safe to open the LRT based on data from the performance of the trains."

The TTC is prepared to take over operations when the line opens and will rely on train performance data and readiness exercises to determine safety and timing.
