Greg Desgroseilliers, a tenant in a Toronto apartment, faces persistent flooding caused by the laundry activities of neighbors, leading to significant damage and frustration. Despite his complaints and the poor responses from his landlord, Pinedale Properties Ltd., Desgroseilliers has resigned himself to this ongoing issue. During a visit, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow criticized the building’s maintenance status and acknowledged the shortcomings of the RentSafeTO program, promising to enhance inspections to improve tenant living conditions. This situation underscores the need for better property management and tenant support in urban rentals.
"I just felt like it's a losing battle," Desgroseilliers told CBC Toronto as he provided our reporter a tour of his place.
"It does not look like a 90 per cent building for me," Chow said. "It's not a good quality of life when you cannot use your laundry."
