Voltpost, a New York-based startup, has launched Michigan's first lamppost EV charger, transforming existing streetlights into accessible charging points for electric vehicles. Found at the American Center for Mobility in Ypsilanti Township, this innovation signifies an important milestone for urban EV infrastructure, aiming to reduce the need for costly upgrades. With plans for more installations in Detroit, Voltpost's modular chargers are designed to provide a flexible, efficient solution for urban areas. Although they offer Level 2 charging, the reliance on public lighting infrastructure means slower charging speeds are expected.
Deploying this charger is a meaningful step toward making EV charging more accessible and equitable for all communities, said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO of Voltpost.
ACM's testbed provides the perfect proving ground to launch Voltpost Michigan. This collaboration lays the groundwork for a cleaner, more connected mobility future in Detroit.
