"AllTrails, a hiking app with trail maps and reviews, dug into insights from their 90 million-plus members and team of trail experts to spotlight lesser-known places where the trail alone is worth planning a trip around. Their guide, Travel-Worthy Trails for 2026, spotlights eight unexpected destinations around the world where the trail is the destination."
""We know our community loves to discover new places on trails," Carly Smith, AllTrails' chief marketing officer, said in a release shared with Travel + Leisure. "We searched the world using real experiences from AllTrails members and insights from our local partners to select these special spots. These once-in-a-lifetime destinations will inspire you to plan a trip, or just get outside closer to home.""
"The full list is below and includes hikes as far as Australia and New Zealand and as close as North Carolina. Each location was selected for the quality of its trails, landscape, and travel-worthy qualities, along with adjacent culture, food, and scenery. We called out the top trail at each destination, but in the full guide, see here, you'll find more information about each destination along with four recommended hiking trails."
AllTrails analyzed data from over 90 million members and input from trail experts to identify travel-worthy trails around the world. The Travel-Worthy Trails for 2026 guide highlights eight unexpected destinations where trails themselves attract hikers, bikers, and runners. Selection criteria emphasized trail quality, landscape, travel appeal, and nearby culture, food, and scenery. Almost half of members use the app to research trails more than 200 miles from home, showing rising interest in bucket-list hikes. Featured examples span historic pilgrimages, long-distance routes, and lesser-known regional networks.
