Watch a mainline train run along part of the London Underground
"Two trains will run the trip on Sunday 21st December, and after leaving Waterloo, they will diverge from the mainline just before Putney to run over the District line tracks to Wimbledon, where they will rejoin the mainline. That means fans of the unusual can see an SWR-branded train passing through East Putney, Southfield, and Wimbledon Park tube stations - and at a sensible hour as well."
"(There are empty train movements regularly, and some odd-hour trains, but hardly ever a passenger train during the daytime) The farewell tour comes ahead of the final replacements of the venerable Class 455 trains with SWR's Arterio trains. It's expected that the last routine passenger-carrying Class 455 train will be on 23rd December, but some will be kept in storage for a few weeks, just in case they're needed."
Two SWR Class 455 trains will run a farewell trip on Sunday 21st December, diverting from the mainline just before Putney to travel over District line tracks to Wimbledon and then rejoin the mainline. The trip departs and returns to Waterloo station, using platform 19 for most runs and platform 1 for the final run. Passengers can view the trains passing through East Putney, Southfields and Wimbledon Park during daytime. Tickets to ride sold out quickly, but observers can watch from the sidelines. The last routine passenger Class 455 is expected on 23rd December, with some units retained in storage temporarily.
