
"It's the key to identifying offenders and stopping them from harming others. "Even if you've taken illegal substances, there is no criminal offence of having these substances in your body so we're not interested in the fact you may have taken some drugs. What we're interested in is catching these perpetrators."

Metropolitan Police recorded 126 spiking offences with positive outcomes, including charges, from about 2,700 allegations in the year to November 2025. Reported incidents rose by 9% over that period. Nearly two-thirds of complainants were female. Police urged victims to report incidents as early as possible because early reporting helps identify offenders and prevent further harm. Police emphasized that possession of illegal substances in a victim's body is not a criminal offence and investigations focus on identifying perpetrators. A virtual reality experience in central London, developed with Meta and the Safer Business Network, aims to train office workers on spiking scenarios during the Christmas party season.
