Police force approved to use most powerful Taser yet
"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"Police officers across England and Wales are set to be equipped with a new Taser model capable of firing from a distance comparable to the length of a modern double-decker bus. The Axon T10 device, recently approved for use, boasts a range of up to 45ft (13.7m). This significantly extends its reach, nearly doubling that of the previous Taser 7 model, which operated at a maximum of 25ft (7.6m), according to Alex Lowe, Axon's UK and Ireland regional director."
The Independent seeks donations to fund on-the-ground reporting across issues such as reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech while avoiding paywalls and aiming to reach readers across the political spectrum. Police forces across England and Wales will introduce the Axon T10 Taser, approved for use, which can reach up to 45ft (13.7m) and fires faster than the Taser 7's 25ft (7.6m) maximum. The T10 can deploy up to 10 individual probes, requires two probes to make contact to deliver an electrical charge, and will automatically turn on an officer's body-worn camera feed when drawn. About 20 police forces have already signed up and live camera feeds can be viewed by support officers from a control centre.
