"After a four month trial the seven men were found guilty of 50 offences and were given jail sentences on Wednesday by Judge Jonathan Seely. The ringleader Mohammed Zahid, 65, of Crumpsall, was given the longest sentence of 35 years. He was convicted of raping Girl A and Girl B on multiple occasions. He was also found guilty of offences of indecency with a child and procuring a child to have sex."
"Girl B said: I coped with what these men did to me as at the time I believed that every man I came into contact with would expect sex. It is horrific that I didn't know any different. She urged other victims to come forward to police. It doesn't matter how much time has gone by, it is still possible to get justice, she said."
Seven men groomed two vulnerable teenage girls in Rochdale and sexually abused them repeatedly from age 13 between 2001 and 2006. The girls were given drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, places to stay and company, and were expected to have sex whenever the men wanted, in filthy flats, cars and on nearby moors. The girls were identified as Girl A and Girl B during a lengthy legal process. Both described profound lifelong effects, including damaged relationships and lasting mental and physical health harms. Rochdale council and Greater Manchester Police apologised for protective failings. After a four-month trial the men were convicted of 50 offences and jailed for terms ranging 12 to 35 years.
