Abubaker Abed, a 22-year-old from central Gaza, left his homeland under dire circumstances, as his mother warned that remaining could endanger their family. He became an 'accidental war correspondent' covering the devastating impacts of war and starvation. Although he initially went to Ireland for education, his primary motivation was safety. Abed described the emotional agony of departure, stating he felt a lingering threat even in his new home. He hopes to begin a journalism course in Dublin, striving to continue his advocacy and reporting on the situation in Gaza.
"I was evacuated on April 16, very reluctantly. I came to Ireland as a student to finish my education, but the main reason I came here was so that my life might be saved."
"The Israelis had put a target on my back because of the reporting I was involved in. I was reporting on the genocide that's happening in my homeland."
