On 22 May 2025, 53 Reform UK councillors won seats in Preston, arriving amid protests outside the county hall. Protesters shouted that Reform and Nigel Farage are racist and fascist; party members denied those labels. Joel Tetlow, a first-time councillor, stood vaping and said opponents do not know Reform as people and insisted the party seeks to stand for the country and look after its people. Tetlow and Reform faced scrutiny over a Hitler meme he posted and defended. Reform and Farage have denied accusations of racism while opponents portray the party as far right.
