Keir Starmer confirmed he knew about Peter Mandelson's longer-term relationship with Jeffrey Epstein before appointing him US ambassador. The prime minister said Mandelson repeatedly lied to his team about the extent of his contact with Epstein and betrayed the country, parliament and the Labour party. Starmer regretted the appointment and said Mandelson would never have been appointed had he known the full facts.
